Having been pioneers in NATO’s efforts to address the existential threat of climate change, Iceland and Canada have further strengthened their cooperation in recent years. Canada's Prime Minister attended the annual summer meeting of Nordic leaders in Iceland in 2023, followed by the Nordic-Canadian Summit in Oslo in March this year. Since then, as a key part of Canada’s increasingly prominent role in the international arena, the leaders of Canada, Iceland and Europe have continued to deepen their ties.

John Kirton, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Toronto, argues that there is much more the two countries can and should do together. In an open seminar at the National Museum of Iceland, Professor Kirton will discuss how further strengthening the bonds between Canada and Iceland can benefit both countries, the Nordic, European and North Atlantic communities, and the world as a whole.

Moderated by Eliza Reid, writer and former first lady of Iceland, with opening remarks from the Rector of the University of Iceland, Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir, and Canada’s ambassador Jenny Hill.
