Open event hosted by the National Committee on International Humanitarian Law and the Institute of International Affairs at the National Museum of Iceland

At this open event, Dr. Younis Al-Khatib, President of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, will discuss the humanitarian situation in Palestine, as well as the challenges and achievements that characterize the work of the Palestine Red Crescent Society, and its relationship with international humanitarian law, which the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement upholds and promotes worldwide.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the event will conclude with remarks by Ingibjörg Halldórsdóttir, Secretary General of the Icelandic Red Cross.

The National Committee on International Humanitarian Law was established in 2008. Amongst other things, the committee's role is to promote knowledge on international humanitarian law and provide a forum for discussion on international humanitarian law. The committee consists of representatives from government ministries and the Icelandic Red Cross, with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs holding the chairmanship of the committee.
