The Veto at Bíó Paradís Apríl 22

The United Nations Association Iceland and the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland invite you to a special screening of the documentary The Veto at Bíó Paradís Wednesday, April 22.

The Veto is a powerful documentary that sheds light on the veto power held by the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. For 80 years, this power has been the subject of ongoing debate. Although it is unlikely that the veto will be abolished, its use raises serious questions—particularly when it is exercised in connection with genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. In the film, leading international experts discuss reforms and realistic ways to break the deadlock within the Security Council and how the risk of further large-scale conflicts might be reduced.

We invite you to a welcome reception at 6:00 p.m. and the screening will start at 7:00 p.m. Following the film, there will be a short panel discussion featuring the film’s director, Tim Slade, and other experts, who are to be announced.

The Veto is a timely and important documentary that is highly relevant to anyone interested in international relations and security issues.

The registration deadline is April 21. Seating is limited.
