Hildur Björnsdóttir has been Mayor of Reykjavík since June 2026. She is a lawyer and political scientist by education and has served on Reykjavík City Council since 2018.

During her time on the City Council, she has served on the City Executive Council, the Environment and Planning Council, and the School and Recreation Council. She has also served on the Capital Area Planning Committee and on the boards of Reykjavík Energy, Faxaflóahafnir Port Authority, and the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities.

She holds a BA in Law and a BA in Political Science from the University of Iceland, as well as an MA in Law. She qualified as a district court attorney in 2012 and has professional experience in law and legal services.
