Sergey Radchenko is a historian and professor at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he is Rupert Murdoch Professor and Director of the Bologna Institute for Policy Research. He is a leading scholar of the Cold War, with research focusing on nuclear history, Russian and Chinese foreign policy, and international relations in East and Central Asia.

Originally from Sakhalin Island, Russia, Radchenko was educated in the United States, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, earning his PhD from the London School of Economics in 2005. He is the author of several books on Cold War history, including To Run the World: The Kremlin’s Cold War Bid for Global Power (2024).
