Nazanin Boniadi is an Iranian-born, SAG and AACTA Award-nominated actress and renowned human rights advocate. Her television credits most notably include ‘Homeland,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ ‘Counterpart,’ and the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series. On the big screen, Nazanin won acclaim for her memorable role in ‘Bombshell’ and her leading role in ‘Hotel Mumbai.’
As an activist, Nazanin has partnered with various charitable organizations since 2008 to campaign for the rights of disenfranchised populations across the world, with a focus on the unjust conviction and treatment of Iranian youth, women and prisoners of conscience. Appointed an Amnesty International UK ambassador in 2020, she has spoken at esteemed institutions and forums, including Oxford University, the Munich Security Conference and the World Economic Forum. Her thought leadership has been featured in major global media outlets, and her advocacy work has taken her to the halls of power—addressing the US Capitol, the UK, German, Australian and Canadian Parliaments, and the United Nations.
She is the recipient of the 2020 Freedom House Raising Awareness Award, and the 2022 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. In 2023, she joined the board of the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center for Human Rights in Iran. That same year she became a Sydney Peace Prize laureate and received the Feminist Majority Foundation’s ‘Defending Democracy & Advancing Equality Award.’ She is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
