Ambassador Hermann Ingólfsson is Director of Eastern Europe Affairs, Directorate for International Affairs and Policy, Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Since joining the Icelandic Foreign Service in 1997 he has worked on political affairs, development cooperation, defence and security policy and regional cooperation. He was appointed Ambassador in 2014, served as Ambassador to Norway 2015 – 2019 and as the Permanent Representative of Iceland to NATO 2019 – 2024. He was Director-General for Political Affairs / Political Director of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs 2011 – 2015 and Director-General for International Development Cooperation 2009 - 2011. He was Iceland´s Representative to the NATO Military Committee 2007 – 2008 and Advisor to the Executive Director, Nordic-Baltic countries, at the World Bank 1998 – 2003.
Ambassador Ingólfsson holds a M.Sc. in Engineering, International Technology Planning, from Aalborg University and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the Technical College of Iceland.
