Cedric de Coning is a research professor in peace and conflict studies with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, where he co-directs the Center on UN and Global Governance, leads a climate, peace and security project and coordinates the Effectiveness of Peace Operations research Network (EPON). He is also a senior advisor for ACCORD. His research draws on complexity theory to deepen our understanding of how social-ecological systems adapt under pressure, and he applies this perspective to international and regional conflict resolution initiatives and the climate-peace nexus. He holds a PhD from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Stellenbosch. He has served in a number of missions and advisory capacities for the African Union and United Nations, including on the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Board for the Peacebuilding Fund.
