An open seminar on Iceland - US relations

📅 Friday, March 14, from 12:00 – 13:15
📍 The Lecture Hall in Edda, University of Iceland

In the six weeks since Donald Trump took office in the White House, there have been significant and unforeseen changes in U.S. foreign policy. At this open seminar, we will discuss the impact of Trump’s statements and actions on Iceland’s security and international trade.

🇺🇸 What does it mean for Iceland’s defence that U.S. commitments to NATO and Europe are in doubt? How prepared is Iceland to respond to demands similar to those the U.S. government has directed toward Greenland and Denmark? What impact could potential trade wars have on the Icelandic and global economy? Are we witnessing fundamental changes in free international trade?

Additionally, the discussion will explore the extent to which Trump has succeeded in reshaping U.S. foreign policy and speculate on what to expect in his foreign policy over the next four years.

🎤 At this open seminar, Baldur Þórhallsson, Professor of Political Science at the University of Iceland, Erlingur Erlingsson, Foreign policy, defence and government relations specialist, Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, Member of Parliament and former Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Katrín Ólafsdóttir, Associate Professor of Economics at Reykjavik University, will address these questions and analyse the current situation.

Moderator: Elín Margrét Böðvarsdóttir, news reporter at Stöð 2, Vísir and Bylgjan.

The discussion will take place in Icelandic and is open to all.
