Friday 8 March from 13:00 to 14:00 in Oddi 101, University of Iceland
Open seminar hosted by the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland, the Icelandic Political Scientist Association and the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Iceland
The Future of British Politics
2024 is a general election year in the UK. After 14 years in power, the Conservative Party looks likely to be removed from office. All of the opinion polls suggest a large majority for the Labour Party. If this is the case, it will be Labour’s first administration in the post-Brexit, post-pandemic era.
In this very timely public lecture, Matt Beech and Kevin Hickson examine the changing landscape of British politics bringing to bear historical, ideational and cultural analysis. In the lecture they will examine the legacy of the long period of Conservative rule and the likely nature of Starmer’s Labour government.
Dr. Matt Beech, Reader in Politics and Director of the Centre for British Politics, University of Hull
Dr. Kevin Hickson, Senior Lecturer in British Politics, University of Liverpool
Moderator: Ólafur Þ. Harðarson, Professor Emiritus at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Iceland
*The seminar will take place in English and is open to all.
