At this open seminar, Professor Michael S. Goodman, Director of the King's Centre for the Study of Intelligence at King's College London, will discuss current and future challenges facing national security and intelligence communities.
Every day there are new stories about the geopolitics of Europe; What will the American position be? Can Russia be trusted? Will Europe be able to co-ordinate its efforts? The core of all of these questions is the issue of national security. The challenge is one of trying to combine national interest with collective security, and the very simple argument that security has to start far beyond your own borders, something that Iceland’s own national security policy is clear about.
This talk will reflect on how state threats have been over the last 30 years, paying particular focus to the positions of the United Kingdom and the United States. Professor Goodman will seek to answer how we need to re-define what we mean by ‘national security’ moving forward, and then consider 7 different challenges for the future.
Moderator: Page Wilson, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Iceland
The event is open to all and will be conducted in English.
