Small States and the New Security Environment. First international conference, University of Canterbury 3-4 June 2017

The first conference in the SSANSE project will be held at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand on June 3-4. Dr. Baldur Thorhallsson, NATO Project Country Director, will give a talk on Trump and Small European States today, Iceland and the USA in 2006 and 2008, and ask what small states do when a superpower deserts them. How do small states defend themselves when deserted by their most trusted longtime ally?

The next conference will take place in Iceland in June 2018.

The SSANSE project, funded by NATO, is a preparedness initiative examining the defence and foreign policy choices and challenges of small states in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and Oceania in the new security environment.
