The Propaganda War against Terrorism

Dr. Emma Briant will speak about the United States government’s attempts to adapt their propaganda strategies to global terrorist threats in a post-9/11 media environment, governmental cultures and their impact on propaganda strategy development in counter-terrorism. She will draw on illuminating interviews from her book ‘Propaganda and Counter-terrorism’, with high-profile sources including journalists, PR professionals and key foreign policy, defence and intelligence personnel.

Dr. Emma Briant is lecturer in Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield.

She is the author of the book Propaganda and Counterterrorism: Strategies for Global Change, published in 2014, and co-author to the book Bad News for Refugees (2013). Dr. Briant has published numerous articles in scholarly journals in recent years.

Moderator: Ragnar Karlsson, Adjunct Lecturer and project manager in MA and diploma programme in Media and Communication Studies, Department of Political Science at the University of Iceland.

The seminar will take place in English and is open to all.
