Open seminar June 2: A Secure Future – Powered by the Land

Open seminar Monday June 2 from 12:15 to 13:15 at the National Museum of Iceland

A Secure Future – Powered by the Land

Monique Barbut, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), will present the case that by better land management, we can help populations adapt to climate change and build resilience to drought; reduce the risk of forced migration and conflict over dwindling natural resources and secure sustainable agricultural and energy production. Iceland certainly has a role to play in this context.

Barbut, a veteran French diplomat, served previously as the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Environment Facility (2006-2012).

Opening remarks: Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources.

Moderator: Guðrún Pétursdóttir, Director of the Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland.

The seminar will take place in English and is open to the public.
