The IIA-CSSS´ fall programme started on Friday August 24th with an open lecture by Ingo Heidbrink, Professor of Maritime History at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, USA. Historical research on the Cod Wars between Iceland and Britain and the German Federal Republic has to some degree been limited as the archives of the NATO have not been available for research. In recent years, however, some of the documents in the NATO archives have become available. Thus, the history of the Cod Wars has been revisited by a number of scholars. The lecture presented some of the recent findings and discussed whether the history of the Cod Wars needed to be re-written or if the NATO archives provided only additional facets to the story.
